Overview

Tennessee Technological University, also referred to as Tennessee Tech, is a public, coeducational university located in Cookeville, Tennessee, United States. It was established in 1915 as Tennessee Polytechnic Institute. Later, when it acquired University status, its name was changed to Tennessee Technological University. The campus today spreads over more than 230 acres of suburban land.

The student population at Tennessee Technological University is cosmopolitan in nature with students of White/Caucasian, African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Hispanic, American Indian/Alaskan Native, and other origins on the roster. The University's campus is home to a number of fraternities and sororities including, Alpha Gamma Sigma, Phi Gamma Delta, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Omega Phi Alpha, Phi Mu, and Kappa Delta.

Tennessee Tech's sports teams are called the Golden Eagles. The official mascot is the majestic Golden Eagle. The university sponsors basketball, football, baseball, cross country, golf, tennis, rifle shooting, softball, soccer, and volleyball.

Tennessee Technological University provides on-campus housing for 2,282 of its 8,919 (full-time) students (as of 2009-2010). The school requires freshmen to live on campus.

Athletics

School sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Ohio Valley Conference for major sports.
