Overview

Texas Woman's University, or TWU, was founded in 1901 as the Girls Industrial College. The first class was held in 1903. It was renamed to College of Industrial Arts and Sciences, or CIA, in 1905. It was then renamed to Texas State College for Women, or TSCW, in 1934. TWU gained university status in 1957 and adopted its current name. The university campus is spread over 270 acres in Denton, Texas. TWU also has two health science centers in Houston and Dallas. The academic units of the university are as follows:

There are several fraternities and sororities at TWU. Some of the Greek Letter Organizations of the university are Alpha Omicron Pi, Phi Iota beta, Kappa Sigma, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sigma Alpha Iota, Alpha Gamma Delta, Phi Upsilon Omicron, Zeta Phi Beta, Alpha Theta Omega, Sigma Lambda Alpha, and Sigma Gamma Rho.
