Overview
The College of New Rochelle was founded in 1904 as the first Catholic women's college in New York. It was founded by the Order of the Ursulines. The college is situated on 20 acres of land in New Rochelle, New York. CNR offers several degree and certificate programs and is composed of the following schools:
- The Graduate School
- The School of Arts & Sciences
- The School of New Resources for adult learners
- The School of Nursing
CNR has several active student clubs and organizations, including the Black Ice Step Team, Black Student Union, CNR Model United Nations, College of New Rochelle Student Nurses’ Association, Latin American Women’s Society, Science and Math Society and Women in Lasting Defense of the Environment.
Some of the notable alumni of CNR are Mary Donohue, the Lieutenant Governor of New York from 1998-2006; Anne Sweeney, the President of the Disney-ABC Television Group; Madeleine Blais, the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author; and Mercedes Ruehl, the Academy Award-winning actress.
