Overview
The University of Tampa is a co-educational, private university. It is located in downtown Tampa, Florida. Frederic Spaulding founded the university in 1931, under the name Tampa Junior College. In 1933, the campus was moved from the west coast of Florida to its present downtown location, and was renamed as the University of Tampa. The campus now stretches across nearly 100 acres of urban land. The university grants admission to more than 5,000 students every year.

The official mascot of the university is the Spartan. The Spartans participate in intercollegiate soccer, volleyball, baseball, crew and golf. UT hosts a crew regatta every spring. Teams from across the USA come to participate in it.
