Truman State University

Truman State University is a public liberal arts and sciences university located in Missouri. It was established by Joseph Baldwin in 1867, as the First Missouri Normal School and Commercial College. Truman is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges. The university enrolls more than 5,000 students annually. It offers degrees in more than 40 undergraduate and over 8 graduate programs. It is organized into the following academic divisions:

  • School of Health Sciences & Education

Truman is home to several student clubs and organizations. The Greek organizations contain more than 20% of the student population in over 15 fraternities and 10 sororities. They are governed by the Interfraternal Council.

Housing and Meals

Truman provides on-campus housing for 2,860 of its 5,737 (full-time) students (as of 2008-2009). The school requires freshmen to live on campus.

Athletics

School sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association for major sports.

The school offers financial aid for athletes. Of students receiving athletic financial aid, 196 male students received the aid (men were 63% of those receiving aid) and 117 women were awarded financial aid based on athletics (representing 37% of students receiving such aid) .
