Overview
Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York (UTS) is a coeducational Christian seminary situated in Manhattan between Broadway and Claremont Avenue. Established in 1836 under the Presbyterian Church, the school confers Masters of Sacred Theology, Masters of Divinity, Masters of Arts, Doctorates of Philosophy, Doctorates of Theology, and also provides joint degree programs with the Columbia University.
Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York hosts several clubs and organizations including The Beatitudes Society, The Black Women's Caucus, The Crowd of Unknowing, and The Ecology Caucus. The school is home to the Burke Theological Library that contains over 700 thousand periodicals, volumes, scores, rare historic materials and manuscripts. Some of the notable alumni of UTS are Frederick Buechner, writer; Dietrich Bonhoeffer, German Lutheran theologian; and David Dellinger, renowned American peace activist.
