The University of Arizona is a land-grant public institution of higher education and research. Founded in 1885, it was the first university in the state of Arizona. The campus is home to over 170 buildings and covers an area of 380 acres.
UA offers over 300 areas of study at bachelors, masters, doctoral and first professional levels. It is organized into various colleges and schools like the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the College of Education, the College of Nursing and the School of Natural Resources, to name a few.
UA recognizes over 40 fraternity and sorority chapters. As of 2006, 10.3% of the male students were members of campus fraternities, while 10.8% of the female population were members of sororities.

StudentsStudent enrollment was 37,217 in 2007-2008 (31,208 full-time equivalent). About 47% of the freshmen class in 2008-2009 was male and women were 53% of the class. Undergrads are 48% of enrolled students and graduate students are 52%. Students living in the US make up 100% of incoming freshmen. Among freshmen students, 94% are full-time and 6% are part-time.

AthleticsSchool sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Pacific-10 Conference for major sports. The school offers financial aid for athletes. Of students receiving athletic financial aid, 190 male students received the aid (men were 55% of those receiving aid) and 158 women were awarded financial aid based on athletics (representing 45% of students receiving such aid) .
