Overview

The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith, was established in 1928 as the Fort Smith Junior College. It became Westark Junior College in 1966 and Westark Community College in 1972. On January 1, 2002, it gained university status and its present name. It is currently the sixth largest university in Arkansas. UA Fort Smith's campus covers more than 125 acres. It is divided into the following colleges:

UA Fort Smith includes several Greek organizations including Delta Gamma, Sigma Nu, Gamma Phi Beta, Alpha Lambda Delta, Sigma Tau Delta, Sigma Beta Delta, Sigma Delta Mu, Kappa Alpha Order, Chi Alpha and Alpha Sigma Lambda.

UA Fort Smith competes in the National Junior College Athletic Association and its athletic teams are known as the Lions. Women’s teams include basketball, tennis, golf and volleyball, while UAFS sponsors men’s teams in baseball, basketball, tennis and golf.
