Overview

University of California, Santa Cruz, also known as UC Santa Cruz or UCS, was established in 1965. The university introduced its graduate study programs in 1966. The university's campus covers more than 2000 acres in Santa Cruz, California, and overlooks the Monterey Bay and Pacific Ocean. As of 2007-2008, UCSC served more than 15,000 students and has a number of undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. programs. UCSC is organized into several academic units including:

  • Stevenson College

The sports teams of UCSC are known as the Banana Slugs. The teams compete in Division III of the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) in men's and women's basketball, volleyball, soccer, swimming and diving, and water polo. In addition, the women’s teams also participate in golf and cross country. The women's rugby team won the Division II National Collegiate Championship in the 2005-2006 season.
