Overview

University of Central Oklahoma, also referred to as UCO, is a coeducational, public university located in Edmond, Oklahoma, United States. It was established on December 24, 1890, as the Territorial Normal School. In 1904, it was renamed to Central State Normal School. On December 29, 1919, it was raised to college status and named Central State Teacher's College. In 1921, the name changed once again to Central State College. It was raised to university status and given the name Central State University on April 13, 1971. Finally, on May 18, 1990, the University's Centenary year, it received its present moniker. The University campus, with its associated buildings, stretches over 200 acres of urban land.

UCO's campus is home to over 15 Greek-letter fraternities and sororities including Sigma Tau Gamma, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Omega Psi Phi, and Sigma Lambda Gamma.

The University's athletic teams are called the UCO Bronchos. The official mascot is a blue horse named Buddy Broncho. The University sponsors baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, volleyball, wrestling, and rowing.

Central Oklahoma provides on-campus housing for 1,728 of its 11,313 (full-time) students (as of 2009-2010).

Students may purchase a meal plan which includes 20 meals weekly.

Athletics

School sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Lone Star Conference for major sports.

The school offers financial aid for athletes. Of students receiving athletic financial aid, 29 male students received the aid (men were 62% of those receiving aid) and 18 women were awarded financial aid based on athletics (representing 38% of students receiving such aid) .

International Study
