Overview

University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, also referred to as UCCS, is a public, coeducational university located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States. It was established in 1965. The urban campus of UCCS stretches across more than 520 acres of urban land.

The University of Colorado is organized into the following schools and colleges:

  • College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences

The University's sports teams are called the UCCS MOuntain Lions. The official mascot of UCCS is Boomer the Mountain Lion. The University sponsors basketball, volleyball, cross country, track and field (indoor and outdoor), golf, soccer, and softball.

Notable alumni of UCCS include Yusef Komunyakaa, First African-American to win the Pulitzer Prize for poetry; Bob Villa, Home builder extraordinaire; and John Herrington, First Native American to go to space aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour in 2002.
