Overview

The University of Maine at Machias is one of campuses in the University of Maine System. It is located in Machias, the seat of Washington County. UMM was established in 1909 as a school for developing teachers. It offers studies in education, recreation, behavioral sciences and physical sciences. The campus is spread across an area of 43 acres. UMM offers more than 10 undergraduate majors.

UMM has an active Greek life. The campus is home to five fraternities and four sororities, including Kappa Delta Phi, Kappa, Kappa Eta, Alpha Phi Omega and Phi Tau Phi. UMM also hosts several student clubs and organizations, including the International Club, Knit Happens Sew Have Fun, the Martial Arts Club and the Newman Club.
