Overview

The University of Massachusetts, Boston, also referred to as UMass Boston, was founded in 1852 as Boston State College. It adopted its current name in 1964. Presently, the university covers more than 175 acres in Boston, Massachusetts. UMass Boston offers numerous graduate and undergraduate degree programs as well as certificate programs. The academic units of the university are divided into the following schools and colleges:

There are several clubs and organizations at UMass Boston which are run by students. Some of these are the ACM Computer Science Club, Anthropology Club, Applied Linguistics Student Association, Beacon's Elite Dance Crew of UMass Boston, Chinese Club, Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society, and Faith Alive Interfaith Council.
