The University of Mississippi was established in 1848. The university is also known as Ole Miss, which was adopted in 1897 through a contest. The main campus of Ole Miss covers more than 1,000 acres in Oxford, Mississippi. In addition, the university has three branch campuses in Tupelo/Booneville, Jackson, and Southaven. Ole Miss offers a number of academic and vocational degree programs and has produced approximately 25 Rhode Scholars. The academic units of the university are organized into the following schools and colleges:

There is an active Greek life at Ole Miss. Some of the fraternities and sororities recognized by the university are Alpha Delta Pi, Chi Omega, Zeta Tau Alpha, Alpha Tau Omega, Delta Tau Delta, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Phi Beta Sigma, Delta Sigma Theta, and Zeta Phi Beta.
