Overview
University of Mississippi Medical Center, also known as UMC, is located in Jackson, Mississippi, United States. It opened in the year 1955. It is the health science campus of the University of Mississippi, or Ole Miss. The university is located in Jackson, Mississippi, and the University Hospital and Clinics are also located within that campus. In 1963, the world's first human lung transplant was performed at UMC. In 1964, the world's first heart transplant was performed at UMC. The medical team used the heart of a chimpanzee, which beat for 90 minutes. UMC is organized into the following academic units:
