The University of Missouri is a coeducational land-grant and public research university in Columbia, Missouri. It was the first public university west of the Mississippi River and the first state university in the Louisiana Purchase Territory.

The University of Missouri stretches across more than 20,000 acres of urban land. The main campus is designated a botanic garden.
The campus is home to one of the largest Greek systems in the United States, with more than 70 fraternities and sororities.
The sports teams of the University of Missouri are known as the Tigers. Truman the Tiger is the official mascot.
Mizzou is a member of the Big 12 Conference, featuring the state's only division I-A athletic program. Student-athletes compete in 20 sports.
Famous alumni of the institution are Samuel Moore Walton, founder of Wal-Mart; and singer Sheryl Crow.
