University Of Missouri-Kansas City

University of Missouri–Kansas City, also referred to as UMKC, is a state university located in Kansas City, Missouri, United States. It was established in 1933 with the name Lincoln and Lee, the University of Kansas City. In 1933, it was renamed as University of Kansas City. Finally, in 1963, the University earned its current moniker. It now stretches over approximately 150 acres among its associated buildings and main campus.

The UMKC campus is home to a number of Greek-letter fraternities and sororities.

The University's sports teams are called the Kangaroos. Kasey the Kangaroo, created by Walt Disney, is the official mascot. UMKC sponsors basketball, softball, soccer, track & field, cross-country, volleyball, golf, and tennis.

Distinguished alumni of the University include Harry S. Truman, 33rd President of the United States; Zel Fischer, Judge, Missouri Supreme Court; and John D. Carmack, video game programmer famous for developing the game series Wolfenstein and Doom.

Housing and Meals

UMKC provides on-campus housing for 883 of its 9,006 (full-time) students (as of 2008-2009).

Students may purchase a meal plan which includes 19 meals weekly.

Athletics

The school is in the Mid-Continent Conference for major sports.
