Overview

University of Missouri–St. Louis, also referred to as UMSL, is a coeducational, public, research university located in Saint Louis County, Missouri, United States. It was established in 1960 as the Normandy Residence Center. However, after three years, it was raised to university status and given its present moniker. The UMSL campus stretches across more than 300 acres of urban land.

The University's sports teams are called the Tritons. The University sponsors soccer, basketball, golf, and softball.

Notable alumni members include Timothy P. Green, Missouri State Politician; Phyllis Smith, actor; and Vincent Schoemehl, Mayor of the City of St. Louis from 1981 to 1993).
