Overview

The University of Montevallo, also referred to as UM, is located in Montevallo, Alabama, United States. It was established in 1896 and was originally known as the Alabama Girls’ Industrial School. There are several degree granting colleges under the university, including:

  • College of Arts and Sciences

  • College of Fine Arts
  • Michael E. Stephens College of Business

The University of Montevallo offers students the chance to be members of various clubs and organizations. Among them are the Astronomy Club, Phi Theta Kappa, Order of Omega, Voices of Praise, and Alpha Phi Alpha. The university's students publish a newspaper called the "Alabamian" and a literary magazine called "The Tower." The athletics teams of UM are known as the Falcons and they participate in sports such as baseball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and golf.
