Overview

The University of Nebraska at Kearney was originally established as the Nebraska State Normal School at Kearney in 1905. The name was changed to Nebraska State Teachers College in 1921 and to Kearney State College in 1963. It became a university on July 1, 1991 and settled on its current name at that time. The university's campus is beautifully nestled on an area of more than 230 acres in Kearney, Nebraska. UNK is made up of the following academic units:

  • College of Fine Arts and Humanities
  • College of Natural and Social Sciences

UNK has recognized many fraternities and sororities. Some of these Greek organizations are Phi Gamma Delta, Alpha Omicron Pi, Lambda Theta Nu, Pi Kappa Alpha, Chi Omega, Alpha Phi, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Gamma Phi Beta and Sigma Tau Gamma.

UNK competes in the NCAA Division II. Its sports teams are known as the Lopers.
