Overview
Established in 1889, the University of New Mexico is a public university located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The main campus is located in the center of the city and covers an area of more 600 acres. The campus has a Pueblo Revival theme that mirrors the buildings of neighboring Pueblo Indian villages.
Other distinctive features campus features include the Arboretum and Duck Pond.
There are also branch campuses in Gallup, Los Alamos, Taos and Valencia County.
UNM offers various bachelors, masters, doctoral and professional degree programs in all areas of the arts, sciences, and engineering. The university is divided into the following schools and colleges:

The Health Sciences Center is the state's largest integrated health care treatment, research and education organization.
About 12,000 nontraditional, working students attend UNM each night each semester through the Evening and Weekend Degree Program.
The university has an active Greek life with many social fraternities and sororities.
The athletic teams are called the Lobos and play in the Mountain West Conference. During the 2007-08 athletics season, 10 sports were represented by either individual or team at NCAA championship events.
Notable alumni include Jerry D. Thompson, historian of the American Southwest, and John Adair, pioneer of Navajo & Zuni cultural studies and, in 1948, the university's first doctoral candidate in anthropology.
