Overview
University of North Alabama was established on January 11, 1830 as LaGrange College. In 1872, the college became the State Normal School at Florence, and the Florence State Teachers College in 1929. It was renamed Florence State College in 1956 and Florence State University in 1967. On August 15, 1974, UNA adopted its present name. The university's campus is located on an area of around 130 acres in Florence, Alabama. UNA is organized into the following academic divisions:

UNA has a number of fraternities and sororities, which are governed by he Inter-Fraternity Council, National Panhellenic Council and the National Pan-Hellenic Council. Some of the Greek organizations at UNA are Alpha Tau Omega, Kappa Sigma, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Pi Kappa Alpha, Delta Chi, Sigma Chi, Alpha Gamma Delta, Zeta Tau Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta and Alpha Phi Alpha.
