Overview

The University of North Carolina at Pembroke is a public, co-educational university. It is one of the few historically American Indian universities located in the USA. The university's campus is located in Pembroke, North Carolina. The institution was established on March 7, 1887 as the Croatan Normal School, with the goal of educating Native American teachers. The institution underwent several name changes, until it was finally named The University of North Carolina at Pembroke on July 1, 1996.

Students may purchase a meal plan which includes 19 meals weekly.

Athletics

School sports include football (Division II Independents), basketball (Peach Belt Conference), baseball (Peach Belt Conference), and track (Peach Belt Conference).

The school offers financial aid for athletes. Of students receiving athletic financial aid, 98 male students received the aid (men were 56% of those receiving aid) and 78 women were awarded financial aid based on athletics (representing 44% of students receiving such aid) .
