Overview

The University of Northern Iowa, also referred to as UNI, was established in 1876 as the Iowa State Normal School. In 1909, it was renamed to Iowa State Teachers College. In 1961, it became the State College of Iowa. The university adopted its current name in 1967. The main campus of UNI encompasses over 900 acres in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The university has a number of degree and certificate programs and is organized into the following academic units:

  • College of Social and Behavioral Sciences

UNI has an active Greek life which are governed by the Interfraternity Councils, Panhellenic Council, and National Pan-Hellenic Council. Some of these fraternities and sororities are Alpha Delta Pi, Gamma Phi Beta, Alpha Xi Delta, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and Phi Beta Sigma.

Athletics

School sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Missouri Valley Conference for major sports.
