Overview
The University of Rochester, also known as UR, is a private, nonsectarian, research university located in Rochester, New York, United States. It was established in 1850 as a Baptist-sponsored institution. It was finally renamed as the University of Rochester on January 31, 1850. The university confers undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and professional degrees to the students. UR’s River Campus is the center of its academic and administrative activities. It covers 200 acres.
U.S. News and World Report, in their popular National University Rankings (2008 edition), placed the University of Rochester 35th in the nation. It is organized into the following academic divisions:
