Overview

The College of Southwest was started in 1958 by B. Clarence Evans as Hobbs Baptist College, a two year junior college. After changing its name to College of Southwest in 1962 and becoming a four year liberal arts college, it finally came to be known by its current name since 2008. The University of Southwest offers programs leading to both undergraduate and graduate degrees in areas such as accounting, biological science, educational administration, and business administration (MBA). The college has the following academic divisions:

  • School of Arts and Science

  • School of Education

University of Southwest has an active Greek life made up of Alpha Chi, Phi Delta Kappa and Sigma Tau Delta honor societies. The college also has professional and performance organizations such as BEST (Bilingual Society for Students and Teachers), SAFE (Southwest Association for Future educators), Drama, and Debate Clubs.
