Overview

The University of Wisconsin-Madison, also known as Madison, UW-Madison, or Wisconsin, was established in 1848. The first class was held on February 5, 1849, with 17 students. Presently, it is the flagship campus of the University of Wisconsin System. The main campus of UW-Madison encompasses more than 900 acres in Madison, Wisconsin, and features four National Historic Landmarks. The university offers more than 130 undergraduate majors and approximately 114 doctoral programs. The academic units of UW-Madison are organized into various schools and colleges including:
