Overview

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, also known as UW-Eau Claire or UWEC, was established in 1916 and named the Eau Claire State Normal School. The name was changed to Eau Claire State Teachers College in 1927 and to Wisconsin State College at Eau Claire in 1951. It gained university status in 1964 and was renamed to University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire. In 1971, the university adopted its current name after the merger of the University of Wisconsin System and the Wisconsin State University System. The university campus covers more than 300 acres in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and features around 28 major buildings.

UWEC is organized into the following academic units:

  • College of Arts and Sciences
  • College of Business
  • College of Education and Human Sciences
  • College of Nursing and Health Sciences

UWEC has recognized several Greek letter organizations including Alpha Lambda Delta, Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Alpha Psi, Alpha Phi Omega, Phi Sigma Phi, Beta Upsilon Sigma, Kappa Delta Pi, Phi Gamma Delta, and Sigma Tau Delta. In addition, the university has several other student organizations. Some of these are the Student Economics Association, Society of Professional Journalists, Public Relations Student Society of America, and French Club.
