Overview
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville was founded in 1866 as a teaching college. In 1959, it merged with the Wisconsin Mining School and its name was changed to Wisconsin Institute of Technology. It became a part of the University of Wisconsin System in 1966 and adopted its present name in 1971. The university's campus is spread across an area of more than 800 acres and has around ten residence halls. UW-Platteville is made up of the following academic units:
- The College of Business, Industry, Life Sciences and Agriculture
- The College of Engineering, Mathmematics and Science
- The College of Liberal Arts and Education
UW-Platteville has officially recognized several Greek organizations, including Alpha Phi Omega, Delta Sigma Phi, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Sigma Pi, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Sigma Tau Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, Ceres, Sigma Alpha Iota, Kappa Alpha Sigma and Zeta Beta Chi.
