Overview

University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, also referred to as UW-Stevens Point or UWSP, is a coeducational, public university located in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. It was established in 1894 as Stevens Point Normal School. In 1927, it was renamed to Central State Teachers College. In 1964, it was raised to University status and re-christened as Wisconsin State University. Finally, the name of the College changed to University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the 1970s. The small town campus of the University stretches over an area of more than 400 acres of land.

University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is organized into the following colleges:

The university's sports teams are called the UWSP Pointers. The official mascots are Stevie and Stephanie Pointer. UWSP sponsors baseball, basketball, cross country, football, hockey, swimming and diving, track and field, and wrestling.

Notable alumni of the UNiversity include Lawrence Eagleburger, U.S. Secretary of State; Andrea Anders, Television Star; John A. List, University of Chicago economist; and Tim Bedore, Comedian.
