Overview
The University of Wyoming, or UW, is a land-grant university located in Laramie, Wyoming. The state's only four-year educational institution providing baccalaureate and graduate education, research and outreach services, it was established in 1886.
The main campus is in Laramie, approximately two hours north of Denver. The university also maintains the UW/Casper College Center, nine outreach education centers across Wyoming, and Cooperative Extension Service centers in each of the state's 23 counties and on the Wind River Indian Reservation.
The university offers more than 180 programs of study and is organized into the following academic divisions:

The American Heritage Center is the University of Wyoming's repository of manuscripts collections, rare books, and the university archives. The AHC also sponsors a wide range of scholarly and popular programs including lectures, symposia, and exhibits.
UW offers is home to more 150 recognized student organizations and several extracurricular activities. It has an active Greek life-- with many fraternities and sororities located on campus in university-owned houses. These include Chi Omega, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Alpha Tau Omega, and Lambda Chi Alpha.
UW competes at the NCAA Division I-A level for varsity sports and is a member of the Mountain West Conference. There are 18 teams in the Club Sports program.
The university offers a Rodeo Club that has participated in the College National Final Rodeos.
Among UW's notable alumni are Dick Cheney, former U.S. Vice President; Dean Conger, longtime staff photographer at National Geographic; Marcia Dale, first nurse from the state to be accepted as a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing; Brent Eastman, chief medical officer of Scripps Health; Curt E. Gowdy, Sr., sports announcer; Cheryl Holt, romance novelist; Arthur H. Howe, professional baseball player; Cynthia Lummis, U.S. Representative for Wyoming; Stephen Nicholas, founder of Incarnation Children's Center for young victims of HIV-AIDS; Susan Pamerleau, first woman to command Air Force ROTC; Alan K. Simpson, former U.S. Senator; Bill Stall, Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter; and Carol B. Tome, CFO of The Home Depot.
