Overview

Valdosta State University, or VSU, was established in 1906 as the South Georgia State Normal College. The first class was held on January 2, 1913, and was it renamed to Georgia State Woman’s College at Valdosta in 1922. The college became coeducational in 1950 and the name was changed to Valdosta State College. Later in 1993, it gained university status and was named to Regional University. In the fall 1998, the university adopted its present name. VSU is spread over 160 acres in Valdosta, Georgia. The academic units of the university are as follows:

VSU has officially recognized various Greek letter organizations. Some of the fraternities and sororities are Alpha Delta Mu, Alpha Lambda Delta, Beta Alpha Psi, Alpha Chi, Beta Beta Beta, Alpha Psi Omega, Alpha Epsilon Delta, Pi Gamma Mu, Psi Chi, Sigma Delta Pi, Sigma Theta Tau, and Kappa Delta Pi.

Athletics

School sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Gulf South Conference for major sports.
