Overview

Virginia Union University, also known as VUU, is located in Richmond, Virginia, United States. It was established in 1865 and is a historically black university. Classes began in 1867. It was originally named the Colver Institute. Later on, it was renamed to Richmond Theological Institute. The school merged with Wayland Seminary in Washington, D.C. in 1899 and was renamed Virginia Union University. The campus covers more than 80 acres. VUU is divided into the following academic schools:

  • School of Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Sydney Lewis School of Business

VUU competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II. Their sports teams are known as the Panthers. They are also members of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
