Overview

Western New Mexico University is a public, coeducational university located in Silver City, New Mexico, United States. It was established under the name New Mexico Normal School on February 11, 1893. Classes commenced on September 3, 1894. The campus of the university now stretches over more than 20 acres of land. The institution grants admission to more than 2,000 students every year.

The athletic teams of Western New Mexico University are nicknamed the Mustangs. The official mascot is the Mustang. The teams participate in golf, cross country, tennis, volleyball, softball, basketball, and football.
