Overview
Western Seminary was originally established as the Portland Baptist Bible Institute in 1925. This was replaced by the graduate-level Western Baptist Theological Seminary on October 4, 1927. It was initially located in Portland, Oregon. In 1986, a branch campus was established in San Jose, California, followed by another in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1988. In the early 1990s, two more campuses were opened in Sacramento, California, and Seattle, Washington. The campuses in Phoenix and Seattle later became independent seminaries.
Western Seminary confers the Master of Arts, Master of Divinity, and Master of Theology degrees. Courses are available in counseling, biblical and theological studies, marriage and family therapy, ministry, and intercultural studies. Students can also opt for doctorate degrees in ministry, and missiology.
