Overview

Yeshiva University was founded in 1886 as a cheder-style elementary school called Etz Chaim Yeshiva. In 2008, it ranked 50th among national universities in the United States. The main campus is located in New York City. There are also other locations in Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx. YU is divided into the following academic schools and colleges:

The student clubs and organizations of YU maintain numerous activities. Some of these organizations are the Economics Club, Israel club, Torah V'Avodah club, High Culture Club, Philosophy club, Music club, Young Republicans, Moroccan Club, Shin club and Hebrew Penpal.

YU competes in the NCAA Division III in the Skyline Conference. Its sports teams are known as the Maccabees.
