Overview

Young Harris College, YHC, was founded by Artemas Lester in 1886. Initially known as McTyeire Institute, the institute was renamed Young Harris College, in 1895, after its benefactor, Young L.G. Harris. The campus of this Methodist-affiliated, private, liberal arts college is situated in Young Harris, Georgia.

Young Harris College awards associate's, and bachelor's degree programs in the fields of arts, science, and fine arts. The academic programs are offered through the following divisions:

  • Division of Fine Arts
  • Division of Humanities
  • Division of Mathematics & Science
  • Division of Social & Behavioral Science

YHC students are members of Greek societies like Delta Psi Omega, Phi Theta Kappa, Kappa Tau Omega, Alpha Omega, Zeta Epsilon Delta, and Sigma Beta Sigma. The college also hosts other clubs and organizations including the Art League, the Baptist Student Union, the Student Government Association, the International Club, Dorcas Society, the College Republicans, and SKY Club. In addition, students publish a campus newspaper called "Enotah Echoes", and a literary journal known as the "Corn Creek Review".
