Overview

Youngstown State University, or YSU, is located in Youngstown, Ohio, United States. It was established in 1908 when the local branch of the YMCA established a school of law within the Youngstown Association School. It gained university status in 1955. The main campus of YSU is spread across an area of 140 acres and is located just north of downtown Youngstown.

YSU offers a wide variety of degrees and programs in diverse areas of study. It is organized into the following academic divisions:

  • The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences
  • The College of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics

YSU has an active Greek life. There are several fraternities and sororities on campus. It is also home to various student organizations. Their official mascot is the Penguin.
