Youngstown State University, or YSU, is located in Youngstown, Ohio, United States. It was established in 1908 when the local branch of the YMCA established a school of law within the Youngstown Association School. It gained university status in 1955. The main campus of YSU is spread across an area of 140 acres and is located just north of downtown Youngstown.
YSU offers a wide variety of degrees and programs in diverse areas of study. It is organized into the following academic divisions:

Housing and MealsYoungstown State provides on-campus housing for 1,297 of its 11,476 (full-time) students (as of 2008-2009). Students may purchase a meal plan which includes 19 meals weekly.
AthleticsSchool sports include football (Gateway Football Conference), basketball (Horizon League), baseball (Horizon League), and track (Horizon League). The school offers financial aid for athletes. Of students receiving athletic financial aid, 144 male students received the aid (men were 52% of those receiving aid) and 131 women were awarded financial aid based on athletics (representing 48% of students receiving such aid) .
