"This was the only option for schooling in my area that is not solely online. I was pleasantly surprised with the level of expertise the instructors held, despite the small size of the school and the town."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | I would recommend this school to anyone in the area for anyone who expressed honest interest in attending college. If someone knows what they desire to study, they will find a niche at Western Nevada College. Additionally, the instructors are very helpful and giving. |
| Program Reputation | 8 | I am assuming the reputation is good. I honestly have not heard much about my major from others, as it is not among the more common majors pursued there. |
| Program Quality | 8 | Classes were readily available. The professor was very flexible with class schedules and interested in arranging schedules to meet the needs of the students. |
| Instruction | 8 | All I needed to learn was available. The professor was very knowledgeable. However, it was just as easy for less skilled students to manage passing grades, even without having learned the basics. This, I felt, was to their disadvantage ultimately. |
| How Difficult | 8 | I enjoyed the coursework so much that the difficulty was only part of the fun. No matter where or from whom you take advanced math courses, they will always be conceptually challenging. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | The humanities professor regularly showed slides made from photos of her own personal travels. This was outside the "book," but very useful. The math professor insisted on a lot of interaction and a lot of student work on the board. Still, the books were used very extensively. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 9 | The professor had quite a bit of leeway in arranging the schedule. He consulted the students, as we were the same ones recurrently. We even scheduled our Differential Equations class at 7:00 a.m. so that all students who wanted to take it would be able to. |
| Academic Facilities | 9 | All required facility amenities were available, i.e. electronics, books, media. The Academic Skills Center offered services daily. The classroom accommodations were sufficient. |
| Social Life | 8 | A good deal of emphasis was put on social interaction between students. Events were held on approximately a monthly basis. The art classes held shows that all students were welcome to attend and they provided snacks and beverages. |
| Placement Services | 5 | I do not know. I had begun my career in Quality prior to beginning coursework, and I am still employed with the same corporation now. The span has been 15 years. |
| Alumni Network | 5 | I did not have any experience with alumni while I was attending. As an alum now, I have not had any requests made of me. |
