| Would Recommend? | yes | The teachers are fantastic and are extremely helpful. I always felt that they were willing to always go the extra mile to help out their students. |
| Program Reputation | 8 | As mentioned above Villanove business school is highly ranked. |
| Program Quality | 9 | Excellent teachers and business school has a 90% rate of graguating students with Job offers already. |
| Instruction | 7 | A few classes were not needed for the major but overal, i felt prepared to enter the workforce. |
| How Difficult | 9 | Villanova is a Top 15 business. The courses were challenging and effective to prepareing us. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | Most classes were lecture style, but there are a few with group projects that you work on through out the semester. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 7 | Classed were offered at night. |
| Academic Facilities | 7 | Villanova had several programs available for students who needed help. The library could use some updating but was suitable. |
| Social Life | 7 | Athletics were great. Villanova is not a party school so night life was average compared to bigger schools. |
| Placement Services | 9 | They brought recruiters onto campus and held career fairs for students. Very helpful. |
| Alumni Network | 5 | I have not taken advantage of the alumni network. |
Penn State Behrend • Erie, PA
Studying Accounting (completion in 1990)

• 9/5/2011
"Penn State Behrend was a close-knit school that was close to home. We had access to our professors rather than the teaching assistants which makes a world of difference in the learning."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | Penn State has a great reputation. The branch campuses offer the small school feeling with the big school reputation. |
| Program Reputation | 5 | I do not know the current reputation of the accounting program/major. I do know that Penn State overall is still a good school. |
| Program Quality | 9 | Penn State Behrend had a wonderful accounting program for B.S. degrees. It had the feel of a local college but the name of a huge university. |
| Instruction | 10 | My instructors prepared me well for my first full-time accounting job when I graduated. They applied real-world examples for better understanding. |
| How Difficult | 3 | With the exception of cost accounting, the accounting major was not difficult for me at all. My professor for cost accounting had a monotone voice and boring technique so everyone slept through the class. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | Accounting is a book learning oriented major. The only hands-on learning only came through visiting a CPA firm. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 4 | For my accounting major, I had several night classes which interfered with me working my full-time job. Most of my friends had at least one afternoon off a week and no 8:00 a.m. classes in their different majors, but not so for the accounting majors. |
| Academic Facilities | 5 | There really aren't any extra facilities required for accounting majors. We did have study group support and because of the small school atmosphere we had access to our professors when needed. |
| Social Life | 5 | Since I worked a full-time job 11-7 while going to school full-time, I really didn't have time for a lot of social experiences. I do know that a lot of people got pumped up when a PSU home game was happening. |
| Placement Services | 5 | The job placement person was not that good at the time I graduated. I know several people who received good grades and couldn't get a job upon graduation because the job placement person didn't do any more than she absolutely had to do. |
| Alumni Network | 5 | I am not really involved with the alumni association. They were always asking for more money which is not possible immediately upon graduation and they turned me off because of it. |
University Of Pennsylvania, The Wharton School • Philadelphia, PA
Studying Accounting (completion in 2004)

"I was somewhat satisfied with my school choice. I can say I have an Ivy League degree, with the student loans to prove it."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | maybe | It would depend on the person asking; if I thought they could handle the program, I would recommend it. I would also explain the costs. |
| Program Reputation | 9 | According to Business Week, Wharton is ranked number four in their undergraduate program for 2011, which is very good. |
| Program Quality | 5 | The degree program was worth it. However, the program was very expensive and didn't open as many doors as expected. |
| Instruction | 9 | Classes were taught at a graduate level. Much course preparation was necessary to succeed. |
| How Difficult | 9 | The program was taught at a graduate level. I had to put extra time into completing coursework. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | I would say the program was more book learning, focusing on theory. However, there were a few courses, such as tax, that was more hands on. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 1 | The program I completed was an evening program. This program was terminated in 2005. The school currently only offers a full-time day program or an evening certificate program. |
| Academic Facilities | 5 | The school has several libraries and study areas. I only ranked this as average because I wasn't aware of any tutoring opportunities for my courses. |
| Social Life | 5 | My program was geared for working adult students. We were all considered non-traditional and did not participate in social activities. |
| Placement Services | 5 | I did not use the school's job placement services. They did give me a few pointers on my resume. |
| Alumni Network | 5 | The school has a large alumni network. However, you need to be active within the network to benefit. |
LaSalle University • Philadelphia, PA
Studying Accounting And Management (completion in 2007)

• 10/31/2011
"I felt very prepared to move on in life. I was lucky to have LaSalle's prior relationships help place me in a great job. I also made lifelong friends. It was the best 4 years of my life."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | The reputation of LaSalle speaks for itself. The professors did a wonderful job of preparing me for my career. |
| Program Reputation | 9 | LaSalle is known regionally for having an excellent business school. This is demonstrated by the high job placement rate after each graduating class. |
| Program Quality | 8 | I felt very prepared entering the workplace. I had a good background of all of the different types of accounting: managerial, cost, tax, etc. |
| Instruction | 8 | The teachers were very knowledgeable in all types of accounting. Some used games and projects to help with the learning process. |
| How Difficult | 8 | The classes moved rapidly and covered a wealth of topics. Each professor required group projects, etc. throughout the semester. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | Most teachers would supplement the book with other material. Most of this material would be hands on cases that helped put what the book taught into practice. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 8 | Multiple classes are available. They offer classes at night and they also have satellite campuses. |
| Academic Facilities | 7 | As a private university, some of the classrooms were in need of remodeling. The library and computer labs, however, were excellent assets. |
| Social Life | 6 | I commuted for a year and lived on campus following that. I was within an hour of home so I made friends but didn't stay on campus all that much. |
| Placement Services | 10 | I had over 5 interviews on campus. They do an excellent job of helping you tailor your resume and have an excellent relationship with both small and large firms. |
| Alumni Network | 10 | Alumni meet-ups are held at least twice a year strictly for networking purposes. They also provide at least 6 other alumni events throughout the year. |
The Pennsylvania State University, The Behrend College • Erie, PA

"I am very satisfied with my Penn State education and degree. They had given me all that I needed to be a successful CPA."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | This school will give you the same education you would receive at the University Park campus of Penn State. However, with smaller class sizes and a more personal experience with the teachers, I feel there is more to be gained here at Penn State Behrend. |
| Program Reputation | 10 | Penn State Erie and the Sam and Irene Black School of Business has a great track record of turning out high-performing accountants. This school offers a learning environment and reputation that is on par with the Smeal Business College at University Park with smaller, more personal classes. |
| Program Quality | 8 | Penn State Erie promotes smaller class sizes for a more intimate learning experience. My only complaint was that the larger public accounting firms did not recruit on the Behrend campus. |
| Instruction | 10 | The instructors at Penn State Erie are excellent and very skilled. Each instructor brings their own personal experiences from either the public or private sector, and is able to translate this real-world experience into valuable classroom examples. |
| How Difficult | 8 | Accounting is a logical science and can come naturally to some and not so naturally to others. In my opinion, accounting is a challenging degree to obtain, because of the vast amount of information that needs to be learned and retained, not just crammed in before a test. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | The coursework for the accounting program is mostly book learning. There are multiple hands-on projects as well as real-world examples being brought into the classroom by the teachers. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 10 | There were always multiple choices for each class. Classes were offered all throughout the day and night, as well as online. |
| Academic Facilities | 10 | There are excellent facilities at Penn State Behrend. In the past 10 years, a new business building has been built, which has new larger classrooms, lecture halls and computer labs. |
| Social Life | 10 | Penn State has a wide-reaching nation of students and alumni who say that they bleed blue and white. I do not know any other institution in the country that has better school spirit than Penn State. |
| Placement Services | 10 | As this college is a Penn State satellite campus, there is a very strong job placement program in place. The college has special counselors to assist with everything from resume writing skills to interview skills. |
| Alumni Network | 8 | The Penn State Alumni Association is a great organization. It is a wide-reaching network, which has frequent newsletters, events and fundraisers. |
Drexel University • Philadelphia, PA

"I was very satisfied with the quality of my education. It helped me to become an expert in my field. The price per credit hour is a bit high though."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | I would recommend Drexel because I can attest to the expertise of the professors, the reputation of the school, and the quality of campus resources. In addition, there are now many online options as well. |
| Program Reputation | 9 | Drexel University has a great reputation overall. In terms of Accounting, because of the popularity of the school's co-op program, it is known that the program is rigorous and provides a solid background for its students. |
| Program Quality | 9 | Drexel's focus on providing practical experience via co-op work is a great advantage. Also, the quality of the teaching from the Accounting staff is excellent. |
| Instruction | 9 | I found the professors at Drexel to be very knowledgeable in their field. In addition to having academic knowledge, they all had years of practical experience. |
| How Difficult | 8 | The program was very challenging, and the workload was extensive. Although I did well in the program, it required a great many hours in the campus library and computer lab. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | I would classify my experience in the Accounting program as very book-oriented. I mentioned co-op earlier, but that did not apply to the graduate program. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 5 | When I attended in the late 80's/early 90's, there was less flexibility than there is now. All of my classes had to be taken on campus, but there were summer and evening options. In fact, all of my classes were taken in the evening since I worked full time during the day. |
| Academic Facilities | 8 | I can attest to the quality of the library and computer labs. However, I am not sure about the availability of tutors and study group support, since I did not make use of those resources. I found the professors to be very accessible, both by phone and in person. |
| Social Life | 2 | I attended classes during the evening because I was working during the day. For this reason, I did not participate in social activities. |
| Placement Services | 7 | I did not use the school's job placement and career services since I was already employed when I began the program. What I have heard from others is that Drexel's career services is superior to that of many other schools. In addition, relationships gained from co-ops prove to be invaluable. |
| Alumni Network | 9 | I'm not very active in the alumni association, but there is constant communication from the association to all alumni. There are numerous events, business seminars, networking sessions, trips, mixers, and personal and career development opportunities offered. |
Temple University • Philadelphia, PA

"No student debt - it was very affordable. Great faculty and campus life."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | Outstanding school. Great reputation in the Northeast area. |
| Program Reputation | 8 | There are many accounting and finance graduates in the area. The school has a great reputation. |
| Program Quality | 10 | Temple University had an excellent business school. I got my first job through an internship arranged by Temple. |
| Instruction | 10 | I had excellent professors who had real world experience. I learned a lot from my classes. |
| How Difficult | 10 | The coursework, especially graduate school, was challenging. I spent many hours studying for my exams. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | Very hands on learning. Most professors work in their fields. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 9 | Many course offerings to choose from. Very flexible scheduling. |
| Academic Facilities | 7 | Computer labs have vastly improved. Technology has improved since I graduated. |
| Social Life | 5 | Temple is located in a poor area, North Philadelphia. Dorms and other parts of the campus have improved since I graduated. |
| Placement Services | 7 | Career placements and internships were great. Very helpful staff. |
| Alumni Network | 8 | Alumni network is strong in the Philadelphia area. I made many contacts through LinkedIn as well. |
University Of Pittsburgh At Greensburg • Greensburg, PA

"I was very satisfied. I had made the decision to stay there and not transfer."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | maybe | I would recommend it for the amount of hands-on learning I experienced. However, in terms of networking and career services, I would recommend a larger campus or school. |
| Program Reputation | 9 | Pitt is a well known school. Also, people went to main campus to pass accounting. I know I got a better education by staying in Greensburg. |
| Program Quality | 9 | I started at the smaller campus because I felt I would learn more. I got more one on one attention and help. |
| How Difficult | 9 | An accounting degree required me to take almost all of the business management class in addition to my accounting class. Also, the accounting homework is very time consuming. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | I would say in general my classes had a good mix. However, accounting is very book oriented learning. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 8 | My major wasn't that flexible in terms of the order in which you could take classes. However, I did take a lot of evening and summer classes to finish in four years. |
| Academic Facilities | 7 | For a small campus it had great resources, but those at the main campus were available to us as well. |
| Social Life | 5 | We had a lot of activities. However, I commuted to school so I didn't really participate in them. |
| Placement Services | 5 | Again, it was small campus so it wasn't that great. However, we were allowed to use the main campus services. |
| Alumni Network | 5 | I frequently get newsletters from my school's alumni network. However, It was a small campus so it's not as extensive as the main campus. |
Erie Business Center • Erie, PA
Studying Accounting (completion in 1994)

"I was able to obtain my accounting Associates degree in less than two years. I was also able to get a full-time job before I had even graduated."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | Perfect for adult students. Can focus on your career choice without the distractions of dozens of unnecessary courses, like at a four-year school. |
| Program Reputation | I'm not familiar with the school's current reputation. I also don't know any recent graduates. | |
| Program Quality | 8 | As a business school, EBC was focused on preparing students for a career without a lot of superlative classes. I was able to focus completely on accounting and computer applications. |
| Instruction | 8 | Most of the teaching staff had spent years in the field they were teaching. They were not "career teachers," so they had real-life experience. |
| How Difficult | 7 | The instructors were very good at making difficult subject matter understandable. I was a quick learner. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | Heavy use of computer programs to prepare students for real-life. Accounting requires a lot of book learning to comprehend the concepts and practices, though. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 3 | There were no online options at the time I went there, but there may be now. They do offer a full summer semester, though, so I was able to graduate sooner. |
| Academic Facilities | 5 | Very small school, only two buildings. Never used the library, but did use the computer labs often. Instructors made themselves available to students as needed. |
| Social Life | 5 | As a business school, there were no sports and very few other activities. But as a small school, students got to know each other very well. |
| Placement Services | I never really used these services. I was hired by the company where I did my internship. |
York Technical Institute • York, PA
Studying Accounting (completion in 2001)

• 3/9/2012
"I am extremely satisfied with my experience at York Technical Institute. My degree has gotten me far in life, and I've been with a successful company for 9 years now being able to work in the finance field, which I love."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | York Technical Institute is a wonderful school for someone looking to get a two year accounting degree in 18 months. You'll work hand-on with your professors, and have a supportive faculty who really cares about their students. They are focused on career growth! |
| Program Reputation | 10 | YTI has expanded greatly since I've been there. It now has two campuses and about 20 more fields of study. It's very reputable and popular, especially in central Pennsylvania. |
| Program Quality | 8 | I was extremely happy with my education. What I loved about YTI's specialized associate's degree program is that all your classes were tailored towards your major. |
| Instruction | 10 | The professors are extremely intelligent and easily accessible. As stated before, all the classes are tailored towards your particular major, so I was happy that I didn't have to take a history class when I was an accounting major. |
| How Difficult | 7 | I felt that since the professors were all math and economic majors, they were very good at what they did. They pushed us to our limits, and we were able to learn a lot from them. Since the classes are small, you are able to get a lot done and there isn't much you have to take home which allows the chance to study. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | YTI provides a very hands-on learning environment. We were never just reading from a book, we were using workbooks, filling out general ledgers, and working on computers learning different systems like Quickbooks and PeachTree. The technical majors are actually working on real cars, motorcycles, robots, HVAC equipment... it's a very inspiring environment. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 7 | YTI's class schedule was not very flexible. There were morning, afternoon and night classes. But classes were held every day, Monday through Friday. No weekend classes or online classes were available when I was a student. Classes run all year long, so summer classes wouldn't be applicable. |
| Academic Facilities | 8 | YTI is a technical institute so it's not set up like a traditional university. Each major has classrooms or labs set up for their particular needs. For instance, the motorcycle tech department would have everything in their garage that they would need for their classes, while the accounting group would have access to computer labs, workbooks, etc. |
| Social Life | 8 | Again, YTI is a technical institute, so there aren't many social events planned. There are no sports teams or organized events. The faculty and students are very proud of their school and education. |
| Placement Services | 9 | YTI has life long career assistance. They are continuously holding job fairs, and any current students or alumni can contact the school for career assistance at any time. |
| Alumni Network | 1 | There is no alumni network in place that I am aware of. |

"I was satisfied because the price was right and I got a job in my field of study. I also encouraged my son to tour the college and he was impressed by the campus and speakers."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | As above, I had my son tour the school and he applied for admission. I feel you can get a good education for a few less dollars here than at other universities. |
| Program Reputation | 5 | I think it has an average reputation because students from this school are continuously getting entry level positions in the Pittsburgh area. The school's tuition is reasonable for the quality of education that you get. |
| Program Quality | 5 | The professors were good, they had prior accounting experiences prior to teaching. It would have be nice if there would have been more class time using real life examples. |
| Instruction | 5 | Like I said above, numerous professors had accounting positions prior to teaching. One professor was difficult to understand because he had an accent (foreign). |
| How Difficult | 5 | Accounting was more challenging than Marketing but less challenging than a Finance Degree. In relation to other majors at IUP, I would say it was average in difficulty. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | It really depended on the class that you took. Any 101 class typically went by the book. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 5 | They did not offer weekend classes when I went there. But for the basic courses, there were many evening choices. There were no online options back then either. |
| Academic Facilities | 5 | The library at that time was brand new. There was plenty of classroom space. It never felt overcrowded. Professors were accessible, as were advisors. |
| Social Life | 5 | There were numerous clubs to be associated with, including sororities and fraternities. The college provided bands and comedy acts on weekends in the student union, free of charge. |
| Placement Services | I have never used their job placement or career services. I do know that they have them. | |
| Alumni Network | I am not that familiar with the alumni network. I do not use it. |
Westminster College • New Wilmington, PA
Studying Accounting And Business Administration (A Double Major) (completion in 2008)

• 3/21/2012
"In terms of the social environment, I would have rated this question a 10. The academic environment was a little outdated, and the administration was very difficult to work with. Most of the people that worked for the registrar made it pretty clear that they really did not care about the students, and were not willing to help resolve scheduling conflicts or allow for flexible payment plans."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | maybe | I probably would not recommend Westminster to someone interested in finance. It is really more of a liberal arts school - great for someone into education or music. They just don't have enough support to make the high cost of a financial degree worth it. |
| Program Reputation | 5 | Westminster generally has a very good reputation as a liberal arts school in Western PA. The business program, however, is very small and therefore the reputation of the school didn't help much in my career search. |
| Program Quality | 5 | Westminster College had an okay business department. There were a few professors that were very patient and helpful. The only complaint is that it was very small (the senior level accounting classes had less than 20 people). The school did not support our department as well as some of the larger departments. |
| Instruction | 9 | I really liked my professors, however most of what I know about accounting, I learned on the job. I kind of believe that this is just a part of this profession though, and I definitely had a solid understanding of accounting principles when I graduated. |
| How Difficult | 3 | The professors explained everything very well in class, and always had convenient office hours. There was not a lot of after class work assigned. I actually thought some of the accounting classes were easier than my high school classes. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | The first three years in the Accounting program were almost strictly book-learning (which seems necessary). For our senior capstone, it was a little more hands on. We discussed ethical issues and reviewed case studies for the majority of the semester, rather than just "crunching numbers." | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 2 | Classes were offered from approx 8-5. There were very few evening options. As far as I know, there were no night or online courses. |
| Academic Facilities | 3 | The business wing was in a building called "Old Main." The technology in most classrooms was very outdated (only chalkboards) and the classrooms were very small and cramped. We did not have a separate business library or computer lab. The academic advisors and professors, however, were very flexible with their office hours and availability. There were no school-sponsored tutors (that I am aware of) but since the classes were small in our department, many professors offered study groups prior to exams. |
| Social Life | 10 | There was always plenty to do at Westminster. There were pretty good student turnouts at football games every year. They also had 5 fraternities and 5 sororities that offered various activities. Student Affairs also often organized movies, dances, game nights, etc. |
| Placement Services | 8 | The Westminster Career Center was very helpful in my job search. They spent a lot of time refining my resume with me, and offered frequent seminars (i.e. "What is Business Casual?" or "Proper Business Dinner Etiquette"). Once I was a senior, they sent out weekly e-mails with job postings and upcoming on-sight interviews. |
| Alumni Network | 2 | I am not even sure Westminster has an alumni network. I received no support while I was in school. Since I graduated, the only communication I have received from Westminster are donation requests. |

"I don't think I could have received a better education anywhere else in the country. The contacts I made at school had a profound effect on my life."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | Having a degree from Wharton opens many doors. The extreme competition for admission reinforces this. |
| Program Reputation | 10 | The Wharton School had the reputation for having the best accounting program in the country. The top firms in the country recruited Wharton Students. |
| Program Quality | 9 | My program was very challenging. The professors were outstanding. |
| Instruction | 10 | The professors were very inspiring. They knew the material and also brought a practical aspect to their teaching. |
| How Difficult | 9 | The homework problems were quite challenging. The tests were very difficult. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | The professors were very intellectual. However, they had a very practical side to them. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 5 | Classes were provided Monday through Friday. Unfortunately, some of the best teachers taught only a few courses at limited times. |
| Academic Facilities | 10 | We had the facilities of the Wharton Graduate School available to us. Also, a brand new library opened in my sophomore year. |
| Social Life | 10 | The school had a very active social life centered around fraternities and sororities. The football and basketball teams had a great following. |
| Placement Services | 8 | All of the big eight firms recruited at Wharton. The career counselors also mentored students. |
| Alumni Network | 9 | The alumni in my local area were very helpful for recruiting. They were also fine mentors. |
