Would Recommend?yesI would definitely recommend my school to others planning a career in the business field. It is a highly rated school, and I think the education gained from this school will put that student in a good position to have a solid, prosperous career.
Program Reputation7The University of Arkansas' College of Business is ranked as the 24th top public business school in the nation. It is also ranked 6th for its Marketing program.
Program Quality8I think the college that I attended had and still has a good rating for their College of Business. I feel that the courses I studied to get my degree were very beneficial to my career.
Instruction8I believe the quality of instruction that I received has been better than average. I had instructors from various backgrounds with a lot of practical experience in the business field.
How Difficult7I came from a small high school where I didn't have to study a lot for my grades. I felt that compared to the classes some of my other friends were taking at other colleges that my studies were harder than average.
Hands-On vs. BookishI had field trips with some of my classes to discover what was going on in the "real world." I had research projects as well.
Schedule Flexibility9The U of A's class schedule is very flexible. They offer virtually any time for classes. They make it very easy to get a degree if you have any time at all.
Academic Facilities9I found the school resources to be fabulous. The library and media and computer resources were excellent. Computers were not nearly as developed as they are now, but for the time, the resources were excellent.
Social Life9I loved attending the U of A - Go Hogs!!! There were always scheduled events/parties at the dorm where I stayed. I attended all of the Razorback football and basketball games the whole 4 years I was there. School spirit could not have been better!
Placement Services8When I graduated, there was a job placement service available to all students. At that time, job placement was excellent for all of the people that I knew who graduated from the College of Business.
Alumni Network9I receive several mailings a year regarding my alumni network. There are also several alumni activities that I am invited to on a regular basis.

"The flexible schedules and off campus classes were helpful. Discounted tuition for university employees was also very helpful."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

Would Recommend?yesThe program was geared to adult, non-traditional students such as myself. The flexible off-campus classes were very helpful.
Program Reputation8The program I was in lead to an associate degree. Another branch of the university system in the same city had a nursing program that lead to a master's degree.
Program Quality7I was able to use what I learned on my job. Completing the classes raised my self-confidence.
Instruction9I had very good instructors. They covered their material thoroughly.
How Difficult8I didn't have the necessary preparatory classes in high school. This made my college classes difficult.
Hands-On vs. BookishDepended on the subject. Certain classes, such as lab based classes, were very hands on.
Schedule Flexibility8I was married with a child while in school and was able to work around this. Off-campus courses were available in basic classes.
Academic Facilities7Academic advisors were not that helpful. Facilities were adequate to good.
Social Life3I was married and not a traditional student. I did not participate in campus social life.
Placement Services2I didn't get a job through the school. I was not counseled about career choices.
Alumni Network1There is none. No alumni organization has contacted me.

Lyon College • Batesville, AR
Studying Biology/English (completion in 2005)

"I learned so much while I was at college, including how to navigate social relationships. I still stay in touch with many people from my years at Lyon."

Would Recommend?yesMy school provided solid preparation for scientific research. The English coursework I did has been instrumental in the less technical aspects of my job, but no less essential.
Program Reputation9My school has a high acceptance rate to professional schools: medical, dental, veterinary, and law. It has maintained this reputation through strict standards of excellence.
Program Quality8My school did a good job of giving me foundational scientific knowledge and understanding. Additionally, my education there has allowed me to integrate information from widely differing fields more effectively.
Instruction10My professors were stellar.
How Difficult8The biology department maintains high standards, as does the English department. Taking both majors at once was challenging for me; there was not much time for classes outside of these two majors.
Hands-On vs. BookishThere was a decent mix of traditional and hands-on learning styles. Particularly in my science classes, lectures and labs provided a balanced approach.
Schedule Flexibility10I never had an irresolvable problem with scheduling. In one circumstance, I was even able to negotiate with a professor to arrive in his class ten minutes late every time so that I could fit another required course into my schedule.
Academic Facilities9Professors were highly accessible, and all were motivated to help students succeed. Facilities were more than adequate for me to complete my coursework and explore new information on the side.
Social Life10My social experience was very positive in college. The school was small, so I knew most of my classmates well. Even with such a small student body, there were always friends and classmates to study or socialize with.
Placement ServicesI did not use these resources to my full advantage. As such, I cannot comment on their effectiveness.
Alumni Network10I still keep up with classmates, faculty and staff at Lyon. The school reaches out frequently to survey how alumni are doing in their career fields, so I feel connected to the college, even after graduation.

"It could have been so much better, with hands on visits to Wal-mart, Tyson, etc. I should have had instant job offers, considering what's in the area."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

Would Recommend?maybeIf you must save money, it does cost less than many other schools.
Program Reputation6The business school has come a long way with Walton money and other help. They are rated highly by US News, for example.
Program Quality4I thought the income level would be much higher, as in the 80's stock research was a hot field. I was not expecting to be filing evictions with a college degree.
Instruction3There was not much guidance on how and where to locate a job upon graduation.
How Difficult5We used similar textbooks to most other programs. As a state school, we had similar standards to other states.
Hands-On vs. BookishWe did not have many case studies for which we went on site. This was very odd, as Wal-mart, Tyson, etc. are based here.
Schedule Flexibility2
Academic Facilities8With many millions from the Walton family, it is hard to go wrong. They did upgrade the computers from punch cards in 1982!
Social Life10The local town is very supportive. The Razorback teams have a very loyal following!
Placement Services2There is a career center, and they have interest tests. That's it, though!
Alumni Network1There are no listings of job openings anywhere in the mailings. There are constant requests for money!
