"I enjoyed the multiple options I had while attending UVU. Their clubs were fantastic!"

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesYes, I would because it is very personal and intimate. The instructors really care about their students.
Program Reputation7Many individuals went the same route I did. It is a quick and effective way to get a degree and place yourself on a platform to jump into a variety of majors.
Program Quality5I did not graduate with a "administrative assistant" degree, and so this question is not very applicable. I absolutely loved the science program at UVU. It was exceptional.
Instruction8The great thing about my university is that it is so small. The class settings were very intimate and you were able to really develop a relationship with all of your professors.
How Difficult7This was a difficult degree for me. I believe it was most difficult because I decided to enroll in college classes during my junior year of high school so I was doing double the work.
Hands-On vs. BookishI felt that it was overly book learning. This can be a double edged sword because being book smart does not ensure that you will be successful. I would have preferred a little more hands on.
Schedule Flexibility5Although my school's schedule was not extremely flexible, I was able to enroll in every class I needed to take. I felt that they were pretty balanced when it came to catering to both the full time and part time student.
Academic Facilities10Professors were an email or visit away. The facilities and library were fantastic and I always could find an available computer or workstation.
Social Life8It was a close knit school where everyone knew everyone else and so the clubs were great! I unfortunately did not have a lot of time to devote to clubs or groups, so I cannot tell you more.
Placement Services5I cannot really express an opinion on this question as I did not take part in any of these services. I would hope, though, that they were competitive and good.
Alumni Network1I have not received anything concerning the alumni organization. I also do not feel that I would be qualified for as an alum as I only received a 2 year degree.

"SLCC is a great school, especially for the money. Great staff and great amenities."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesYou will not find a better school for the money. You can even transfer the credits to a 4 year university and graduate for less with the university's name on your certificate. Smart way to go.
Program Reputation9Many people choose SLCC as a cheaper alternative to the state and private schools. Community colleges are also a great way to get your first two years done less expensively.
Program Quality8SLCC is very advanced for a community college. It had many new computer banks and a great staff.
Instruction8Great teachers and smaller classrooms. I have been to larger schools and I prefer the smaller class size and teachers that know your name.
How Difficult7There were some difficult classes, but most were not too taxing. I especially enjoyed debating other students in psychology.
Hands-On vs. BookishFairly hands on, but it depends on the class. One professor read directly from the book every class (history), but most do not.
Schedule Flexibility6I wish they would offer more late night or online classes. Many of the students at SLCC are already working and need more flexibility.
Academic Facilities10Great library. Great computer banks, great internet access. Great classrooms and labs. 10 all the way.
Social Life9Very good experience. I was there for a few years while I had a job and family and I really enjoyed my time there.
Placement Services9The career center at SLCC is very good at helping to place students into jobs. I would rate them as very successful at helping those who need guidance.
Alumni Network8SLCC has great alumni - people who support students who cannot afford a larger school but still want an education.

"BYU is well-respected worldwide, and I was proud to attend. They prepared me well and gave me a great experience while I was there."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesEven though I graduated in a different field than the career that I currently have, it was still a great experience. I suppose that if you majored in business or something even more relevant to administration you would feel even better prepared for the wider world.
Program Reputation7I think that everyone acknowledges that my program was hard. Also, the application process can be demanding.
Program Quality8My program was wonderful! Even though I am not working in the field of education right now, it taught me a lot about writing which is beneficial in any job that I have had.
Instruction3The quality of instruction was wonderful, but it did not really pertain to the job that I have now. That is the only reason for the lower rating.
How Difficult7Everything at BYU is challenging, I think! It was a program which required lot of credit hours and took a lot of work to complete. That said, not all of my classes were extremely hard.
Hands-On vs. BookishWe had a lot of opportunities to do practical teaching. There was still a lot of reading and writing but that pertained to our field so I expected it.
Schedule Flexibility5There are a lot of online and summer classes, but only for general education classes, not for the special program. This makes it a little less flexible depending on your area of study.
Academic Facilities9BYU has a great library and a lot of access to really prestigious publications worldwide. It is a really nice campus and the professors are capable and willing to help.
Social Life10BYU has amazing athletics, intramural sports, student clubs, and a great worldwide fan following. The social experiences I had there were amazing and I loved every year I spent there.
Placement Services8Everyone who gets a degree is guaranteed a student teaching opportunity. However, since I have chosen to work outside of education for the moment, that hasn't helped me personally.
Alumni Network7I think that they make an effort to help us and there are a lot of resources for people who have graduated but still want access to college resources. The professors are also really helpful to past students who want to stay in touch.

Southern Utah University • Cedar City, UT
Studying Interior Design (completion in 2008)

11/3/2011

"The core classes required at the school were very challenging and educational. My only regret is the program that I chose. But as for location, teachers, facilities, and experiences, I am grateful that I chose Southern Utah University."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?noThe Interior Design program at SUU is no longer offered. But even if it was, I would suggest choosing a different school if you want to pursue an Interior Design degree.
Program Reputation5My program of study is no longer available at that school. It was ended in 2008, the same year I graduated.
Program Quality7Although my degree and my career don't exactly relate, my school program did not provide enough hands on experience for my degree. Attending more field trips, conferences, and design centers would have been an enormous help in developing career preparation.
Instruction7The career preparation at my institution was not at the level I would have initially thought. I did choose to do an internship, which was a smart decision. But, the education and curriculum was quite repetitive of what I learned before college.
How Difficult7Although we did have a lot of homework, the program was quite easy. I would have preferred more in depth studies and interaction, other than busy work.
Hands-On vs. BookishMy program was mostly book learning. I would have liked it to be more hands on, as Interior Design is a creative field and can be interpreted in many different ways.
Schedule Flexibility4Since the school was phasing out the Interior Design program, there was hardly any schedule flexibility for the core classes. Most were taught in afternoons, which made it hard since I played soccer at the school.
Academic Facilities9Southern Utah University provides great facilities and resources. The library is centrally located and my program even provided a show room only for Interior Design students.
Social Life9My social experience was beyond what I expected. It was a smaller school, so school spirit and events were prominent. I also played soccer there, so supporting the athletic events was a huge priority.
Placement Services7Since the school was phasing out the Interior Design program, their connections with local workers weren't a priority. Their career service assistance could greatly improve.
Alumni Network8Southern Utah University's alumni network is quite organized. I receive bi-weekly emails updating all of the alumni on alumni events and school information.

Utah State University • Logan, UT
Studying Business/Finance (completion in 2013)

"This school is giving me a great education to further my career."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesUtah State is a very reputable school with many outstanding programs. Any student would be pleased with the education received at this school to pursue their career.
Program Reputation9My program is not quite as high as the University of Utah's business school, but I would rate the program and quality of professors as a 9.
Program Quality10Utah State has a great institution. I was lucky enough to be able to start my training in high school with different computer programs. This has given me quite an advantage.
Instruction9Utah State used to have a program, Office System Support; they didn't incorporate this program into any other classes before it was dropped from the business school.
How Difficult10You have to take many different classes in Management, Accounting, Finance, and Administrative Management. It is an awesome program.
Hands-On vs. BookishThe school often has professors that will make you buy something that they put together themselves. I have also had teachers hand me the book and assignments and say "good luck."
Schedule Flexibility10Utah State's distance education is very flexible with schedules. It isn't overwhelming to be a distance education student.
Academic Facilities10Utah State's academic resources are great. Never had a problem using or trying to find out about these resources.
Social Life10I have been in charge of activities such as homecoming and other various programs. I have also helped with the marketing director to have short programs during games.
Placement Services10The career services start trying to place you in a career well before you graduate. They also have a department solely dedicated to internships.
Alumni Network10The alumni at Utah State are outstanding; very strong support groups from previous students. Community is great for this school.

Studying Business (completion in 2011)

"Overall, I am satisfied with my time at USU and my degree. It was a good academic and social experience. I enjoyed my time there and feel that my degree is respected."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesUSU is great for any in-state students. The cost is fairly low for highly accredited degrees. Scholarships are easy to get, which makes it very affordable.
Program Reputation7The university is accredited. The Huntsman School of Business is growing in popularity. I feel the degree is respected.
Program Quality7I felt I got a fairly decent education. Most of the time, I felt like I was on my own to learn everything.
Instruction5Most of the teachers already had their tenure. They didn't really care too much about their classes. I felt I did most learning by myself.
How Difficult6I didn't find it very challenging. I was in the top of most of my classes, and I didn't feel like I was trying very hard.
Hands-On vs. BookishI was learning out of the book my entire time there. I felt like the book was all I had at times, and the teachers were kind of worthless.
Schedule Flexibility7They are about as flexible as any other public university. I usually had my job work around school, so this wasn't too much of an issue.
Academic Facilities9A lot of money has recently gone into the facilities at the university. I felt like anything I needed was there. The BARN library system was fantastic.
Social Life8Everyone is really involved in supporting the basketball team. I really enjoyed going to those games in particular. USU has the loudest crowd in the state.
Placement Services5They do give a notable effort to find you a job, but the jobs aren't always great. You can't ask for much in this economy, I guess.
Alumni Network4I have not really been seeking alumni support. I don't feel that it's that great, but maybe I just haven't looked hard enough.
