Studying Psychology (completion in 2008)

"I was satisfied that I was able to get through with my degree fairly easy. I was unsatisfied because I felt that I could have been better prepared for my future if I would have went to a better program."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesIf someone were pursuing a clinical only program with an interest of Psychology, I would recommend the program. If they were looking to go more the experiential route or to one day pursue a PhD, then I would recommend that they try a different school.
Program Reputation5I would only rate this as average because there isn't really a rating of Psychology programs at the Bachelor's levels. The Master's program at this particular school is rated somewhere in the middle.
Program Quality7Although my school and job are not related, I would rate my school program at a 7. It prepared me somewhat for what I want to do in the future, while lacking in some areas.
Instruction8Most of the professors in my program knew what they were teaching. A few of them seemed very unorganized and only worried about giving out busy work.
How Difficult6This specific program was not very tough. The program I am currently attending at Oakland University is much tougher. This could be because it is a Master's program or because it is just a tougher program overall.
Hands-On vs. BookishMost of my courses were book learning. Some of them also only consisted of busy work. The current program that I am in is the opposite, all hands on.
Schedule Flexibility7This program's schedule availability was much better than the current school that I am at. They had various class times and you were able to work schooling around your job.
Academic Facilities5We used many of the same classrooms that the other programs did. It would have been nice to have labs for clinical or for research to practice in. We only had one main library as well.
Social Life8UDM is very big on social events. They have a lot of basketball games, homecomings, and many other social events that they sponsor. I didn't attend too many of them, but there was always something going on.
Placement Services3My school doesn't offer much in the career assistant area. It would have been nice for them to offer this post graduation so I could have found something to use my degree with.
Alumni Network3My school does have some alumni support through E-mails and mailing. They don't offer any job assistance or events, which I think would improve it.
