William Paterson University • Wayne, NJ
Studying Anthropology (completion in 2008)

"This loses a few points due to the bureaucracy of post graduation. While I was there, I had a wonderful experience both socially and educationally. The students joke about WPU as a bad university but I think everyone agrees that we were lucky to get the education they could provide."

Would Recommend?yesUnlike the career services department, the professors in my field actually helped with job placement if you asked them. I would definitely recommend this school for Anthropology. I doubt you could find a better group of professors with more passion!
Program Reputation7This major is very popular among people majoring and minoring in it. Anyone who is aware of it knows it is excellent. Unfortunately, it isn't one of the more prominent ones in the university, so a lot of people don't know about t.
Program Quality10Though it did not help my future career, my major had an excellent department. They had wonderful professors with a wide range of experiences.
Instruction10The professors came from all walks of life. You could take the same course 3 times and learn the same thing but with three different perspectives.
How Difficult7There was a heavy workload for this major. However, this was college and hard work is expected.
Hands-On vs. BookishThis really depended on the professor. Some classes we used the book for every lesson. Some classes the students were furious that we would spend $100 on a book and never open it once.
Schedule Flexibility8There was one course required for graduation in my major that was only offered once a year. Aside from that though, most courses were offered at multiple times of the day/week throughout the year.
Academic Facilities10In addition to a large library and computer lab, the classrooms were small, the physical science labs had excellent specimens and the professors loved working so much that they were always easy to get a hold of for assistance.
Social Life9College is where I came out of my shell. I met incredible people. I also was active in a few clubs and pledged a fraternity!
Placement Services3The school had an entire department for career placement. They would help you write your resume and register you for the job board. The job board contained exciting professions such as Starbucks and McDonalds.
Alumni Network1My school has an alumni association whose only purpose seems to be asking for money. Once a year we get a newsletter as well. Their post graduate communications are lacking.

"I feel they gave me a great education. I gained a lot from them."

Would Recommend?noI gained a lot overall. But someone pursuing this career should look elsewhere, because they are not really devoted to this stuff.
Program Reputation5It had a decent reputation. I think that if more people knew about it the reputation would improve.
Program Quality10They provide all the things I need to get ahead. I really enjoyed studying there.
Instruction6They have good professors, but not great. They taught me a lot but not in the best way.
How Difficult10BMG believes in a rigorous program, and that's what they provide and expect. You have to put in lot of extra time to get it right.
Hands-On vs. BookishAlmost entirely book. They don't even have a lab, but they sometimes have hands-on demonstrations.
Schedule Flexibility8They are very good about this. You can miss class and make it up a different time without a problem.
Academic Facilities5It is good and bad at the same time. In areas that they are devoted to, they have the best around. In other areas, however, they don't have much at all.
Social Life5There is a great spirit of camaraderie, but not much in terms of official activities.
Placement Services5Their placement department is good, not great. They try to help but their connections are limited.
Alumni Network2The alumni program doesn't really exist. From time to time hear some updates but not what it should be.
