Studying Business Management (completion in 2010)

"I was very satisfied with my school, as it fit my need to work and learn at the same time. It also provided a quality education."

Would Recommend?yesI have told others that my school provides an option for online or classroom learning for working adults. Anyone can attend classes to improve their skills and their job performance.
Program Reputation7I believe the reputation to be above average. I will add to this that, considering the economy, many graduates are experiencing difficulty finding employment. If you have a recent degree in business management but no experience, you will have a problem finding a job in the field.
Program Quality7My business management degree allows for greater responsibility and input in the day to day activities of the business for which I work. It also allows for advancement into other areas of the business beyond the accounting department.
Instruction8The quality of instruction was good, and the curriculum was very good. The selection of degree programs was limited and I felt that my academic counselor could have been more knowledgeable in assisting me in moving from my associate's program to my bachelor's program. I may have made a different choice. I was halfway through my bachelor's program when I realized I was on the wrong track.
How Difficult8I believe that the coursework was both relevant and challenging. I was a bit suspicious that an online university might not have the rigor of an on-campus university but I found that was not the case. If anything, I found that the online forum required much more discipline than an on-campus forum.
Hands-On vs. BookishMy school provided a mix of both types of learning. The hands on learning came from team projects.
Schedule Flexibility10The University of Phoenix is extremely flexible. They offer online and traditional classes year round.
Academic Facilities10I have found the University of Phoenix' academic facilities to be extremely useful, even after graduation. I still utilize them several times a month.
Social Life5I rated the school as average because I was a 100% online student. I have, however, participated in Alumni events.
Placement Services5I only gave the school an average rating. Since I was employed at the time I graduated, I did not utilize the school's career services.
Alumni Network7The UOP Alumni Association is online and grounded. It is active and continuous. I have found that I have complete access to and support from the Alumni Association if I reach out to it.

"I think online learning is absolutely the future of education. That being said, I wish it was a more acceptable format for employers right now."

Would Recommend?yesAs time goes by it will be more acceptable to earn your degree online. And for someone in the field of accounting being passed over because they don't have a degree, it is absolutely a good way to go to avoid the college "experience" and just get the degree.
Program Reputation7It's the leader in online learning, but is not acceptable still to many employers. As colleges and universities steer towards online learning, I expect UoP to become the standard for online education.
Program Quality8I studied online in a very demanding program that required a great deal of independence. It was up to me to ensure that I was learning and comprehending at an appropriate level to continue to advance through the program. I wish it was a 10, but online learning is still struggling for acceptance with regular classroom learning.
Instruction8Classes were taught by professionals working in the industry. There's nothing better than learning from someone who is on the job... except learning on the job yourself. Level of instruction/knowledge was on par with being in the standard university classroom.
How Difficult9It's a challenge to learn when there aren’t standard lectures in front of a professor. However, it did require that a student pay close attention and read extensively from the text books provided. We would be required to read 2, 3 or 4 chapters each week. We also wrote a ton of papers.
Hands-On vs. BookishThe concentration of learning is done through books as opposed to instructor lectures. It is hands on, though, because it requires students to pull from personal experience. You can actually earn credit for work experience as a student at UoP.
Schedule Flexibility9Classroom requirements are usually online 5 days a week. The amount of time or when to study is entirely up to the student. Required participation is 2 comments each of the 5 days and is part of the grade. Syllabus covers due dates so there are no surprises typically.
Academic Facilities9UoP has a huge online library. They have tutor programs. They have study groups. They have plagiarism checkers. They have grammar checkers. From enrollment you are given a financial adviser and an academic adviser. It really is a great program of support for students.
Social Life4It's online. The typical social experience is not there. I will say that you do meet people from all over the world, which is a pleasure in itself. You realize it is a small world after all. It also provides the opportunity to network with people across the globe/country.
Placement Services8I haven't used the job placement yet or career services. That being said, they are offered and are said to be very helpful.
Alumni Network8I get a ton of emails from the alumni program always updating me on the goings on of the university and my program specifically. We can reach out to instructors through email any time we want. We have access to all classrooms materials and the library for 10 years after graduation.

"I really enjoyed my professors, and the classes were well structured. Having a program that I could complete online was the best bonus of all."

Would Recommend?yesW.I.U. is a great school, and even though most institutions of higher learning now offer online degrees, this was one of the first. The professors were unique in that most of them were teaching part-time and working a full time job. This added value because they would have real life experiences which did make them better instructors.
Program Reputation5To the best of my knowledge the college I attended had an average graduation rate, and no problems that I was aware of. However, I did attend an out of state college via online, so I had no personal knowledge (Friends or Family) of people that had attended prior.
Program Quality10Western International University Professors were wonderful, and were very interested in making sure their students were learning the information being taught. They were always there to answer questions and offer guidance.
Instruction8The courses offered in relation to being prepared to take the knowledge into the working world were great. There is always a learning curve when taking textbook lessons and applying the knowledge into real life circumstances.
How Difficult5The classes I took in relation to the accounting program were challenging at times, but assistance was always available. My situation was unique because I was a non-traditional student attending college part time.
Hands-On vs. BookishWhen applicable, assignments did involve seeking outside companies to interview and interact with in order to receive some hands on experiences. However, the majority of the program was book oriented.
Schedule Flexibility10Classes were offered online and on weekends. The reason I chose W.I.U. is because I could complete my degree online.
Academic Facilities10The majority of our class materials were offered in an online format. We did have access to the school's online library, which was wonderful for research.
Social Life5Even though I was an online student I had the opportunity to get to know many of those in my classes. We did not correspond outside of class. Again, I was a non-traditional student, so parties and other social gatherings were not something I was seeking.
Placement Services5I did not seek the services that my college offered. However, I did receive many invitations to take advantage of the services.
Alumni Network5I can only rate according to a bigger picture of the college I attended. I was an online student, so many of the services provided I did not use because I was not on campus.
