"As I've continued to state, with a community college you get what you pay for. Some have used it as a stepping stone to Loyola or other universities; I got what I needed."

Would Recommend?maybeAfter explaining the pro's and con's of this school I would recommend it to someone looking for an Associate's or a certificate. It's a budget friendly school but is lacking in aspects.
Program Reputation3The school in general doesn't have a great reputation. But in the end you get what you pay for with a community college.
Program Quality5Truman College was adequate to get me the degree I desired. I got along with the professors and students.
Instruction6With regard to career prep, I had already done entry/intermediate level bookkeeping and accounting but I wanted to further it with a degree. The curriculum was focused on Accounting.
How Difficult6Having experience in the field, I did not feel overly burdened by most classes.
Hands-On vs. BookishI would have to describe it as very book learning with regard to my accounting classes. I guess if you were to seek out a tutor you could perhaps call that more hands on.
Schedule Flexibility7I found it very adequate for my schedule and there seems to be flexibility with classes and many different courses are offered.
Academic Facilities3Facilities could definitely be cleaner and nicer. Staff members in general were rude. I experienced computer problems the few times I had access to them.
Social Life7I have made friends with some of the other students. I can't say they build up a huge amount of school spirit, but there is great diversity in the students who attend the college and diversity is why I'm in Chicago.
Placement Services5I already was employed.
Alumni Network3I think once everyone is done with this school - it's community college - they are fairly eager to cut ties.

"I am sorry that they were merged into another school. Other than that, I was very pleased with the books and the teacher availability. They were always prompt in returning graded lessons."

Would Recommend?maybeI would recommend correspondence or online training to anyone who is disciplined enough to pursue and FINISH a course. For those who can't self motivate, it would probably be difficult.
Program Reputation8The new school that took over does not have as good a reputation for their graduates. I don't even remember their name!!
Program Quality10I learned everything from start to finish in the accounting field. I have always been in demand with my degree, even in bad economic times. I had very good teachers who gave very good coursework.
Instruction10The teachers were very professional and graded fairly. They encouraged open thinking. The books were very good from Principles of Accounting to Controllership and coaching for the CPA exam.
How Difficult9I had to study and had lots of exams. The courses were very intensive and the exams covered all the basics of accounting.
Hands-On vs. BookishThe school provided all materials, which led me to quickly get a job on my own to get hands on learning. The books and lessons and tests were very hands on by providing many hands on type problems.
Schedule Flexibility10It was extremely flexible, because it was a correspondence course. I had as long as I needed to finish lessons.
Academic Facilities5The professors were always available by phone or mail back in the olden days when there was no fax, internet, etc! Tutors were available locally.
Social LifeThis does not apply, since it was correspondence.
Placement Services1Their was no help with job placement. Their was no career assistance.
Alumni Network5After I graduated, they merged with another school, and lost all my records! So I didn't keep in touch with any alumni.
