Would Recommend?yesRamapo is a great college. Its in a great and beautiful location. They offer a variety of majors. They have study abroad programs which they always offer grants for to help you save money. They have all the resources available to make sure that you succeed.
Program Quality8Ramapo had a great accounting program. They had tutoring available as well which is difficult to find in this major.
Instruction10My senior year professor was the President of the NJCPA Association. He was just a great role model and wanted us to learn the material by teaching us how accounting can be used in your daily life.
How Difficult7The work load was definitely heavy. Also, in this field you sometimes need to read something two or three times to even understand what the question is.
Hands-On vs. BookishIt was both and it depended on the professor. Some were very hands on and experiential, while others preferred that we stuck to the text.
Schedule Flexibility10Ramapo's schedule was great. My last year I lived at home and commuted because they offered most of the courses on a two times a week agendas.
Academic Facilities10Full library with connection to the local county library as well in the event they did not carry what you needed. In addition, there were public computer labs on every wing. They had a set tutoring schedule. Furthermore, you could make your own schedule if you were not available during that time.
Social Life8Ramapo was in a great location, just a train/bus ride to the city, or if you were into nature just walk down the street and hike up the Ramapo Mountains. In addition, I played soccer while at the college.
Placement Services10While in college I had 2 internships in my field. These opened a great path for my first job out of college. The opportunity is there - you just have to take advantage of it!
Alumni Network5I receive the newsletter to my home now, however I have not gotten involved so I cannot be sure how strong it is.

"I am appreciative for the school allowing me to participate there. A lot of things do need to change for this particular school."

Would Recommend?maybeWell, because of its location and other things, people I have talked to have opted to go elsewhere.
Program Reputation5I would say accounting and business were the major program selections at this school.
Program Quality6I give them a 6 because they don't tell you that you need actual experience to go get an accounting job. I thought you could have a degree and go for it. Nowadays companies want you to have experience and education. They are not willing to train you (i.e. on the software they are using or anything like that).
Instruction6I don't feel like they prepared me at all. I just have a certificate - that's it. I know the basic's of accounting principals but that's it. I would have loved hands on training.
How Difficult3It was probably so easy because of the school's location, but I really don't think I was challenged enough. I do plan on getting my BS but I would like to get some experience first and then move forward.
Hands-On vs. BookishAs I stated before, it would have been so much better to get hands on instead of book learning, because real life experiences are hands-on. Most of the teacher's were CPAs, so they should have known what to teach instead of just from the book.
Schedule Flexibility8It was very easy to pick classes during these times. I would have liked it if they would have offered more online classes.
Academic Facilities4The classrooms were always filled to capacity. The computer lab needs to be improved - you would think that every student was there at the same time. And based on the community, a lot of people did not have computers or internet access so they should have or need to increase the size of the buildings and labs.
Social Life5They had social events, but really my focus was on my degree. I would rather study for something than go to a social event. That's just me.
Placement Services1You had to be a certain age for them to help you with job placement. I did not like this idea because everybody needs a little help.

The College Of New Jersey • Ewing, NJ
Studying Criminal Justice (completion in 2000)

3/30/2012

"I would never recommend it to anyone. Had I known better, I would have chosen a different university."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

Would Recommend?noThe student-teacher ratio is awful. The college seems to embrace only those students who live on campus.
Program Reputation10I have always heard good things about the program itself. I attended over 10 years ago, so it has certainly changed since then.
Program Quality7There was a teacher-student ration of 1:25. I felt as if I did not always get enough personal attention.
Instruction9TCNJ has an excellent criminal justice program. However, I found my education in the community college setting was more valuable and enjoyable.
How Difficult10Criminal justice curricula is very demanding and requires countless hours of study. It is also very hard to find work in this field.
Hands-On vs. BookishIf it had been more hands-on, I would have appreciated it more. A syllabus cannot answer questions in the same way that a real live professor can.
Schedule Flexibility10I was not eligible for any online courses. I suffered the loss of my mother during my senior year and the college would not work with me.
Academic Facilities5There is an adequate law library. The computer lab was hopelessly outdated and there was little access to Lexis/Nexis.
Social LifeI did not participate in any social clubs. I was a non-traditional student and commuted to the campus while working full-time.
Placement Services1I was offered an internship which I happily accepted. I was not offered any job placement assistance.
Alumni Network1I have had no contact with my fellow alumni, aside from Facebook. I did not feel as if I was part of a community at TCNJ.
