Medical Careers

Choosing a professional career in the medical field requires determination and a significant commitment as the preparation for these careers takes many years and is often very demanding in terms of time and difficulty. But, for those who choose one of these professions, the ability to help people and, in some cases, the lure of a high income, make the effort worthwhile.

Many of the careers in this field require earning a medical doctor (MD) degree or a dental degree (DMD or DDS) which take a minimum of eight years of higher education. Psychologists must complete either a master's degree or if they want to work in private practice, a doctoral degree. In all cases, medical professionals must be licensed to practice.

The professions listed below are those identified by BrainTrack as commonly requiring higher education either for entry or for advancement. Hyperlinked jobs go to detailed profiles, including lists of schools with relevant programs.
