"They taught me what I needed and got me my job. I'm not picky."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | no | I would not recommend any school for someone pursuing my career. |
| Program Reputation | 5 | I don't think they are known for their program outside of Idaho and Washington. GIS doesn't have much of a reputation anywhere, though. |
| Program Quality | 5 | In retrospect, I don't think degrees in general hold a candle to work experience. But for what it is, UI is just as good as the next school. |
| Instruction | 7 | I knew everything I was expected to know on my first job. Professors had some pretty obvious prejudices as well as misconceptions about practical work. |
| How Difficult | 2 | I rarely had homework that I wouldn't finish before dinner, even in my later years. This was especially evident when compared to my friend in mechanical engineering. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | Although by "book learning" I am including lecture learning, as there was not much need for the textbooks in my curriculum. There was still comparatively little practical work to be done, though. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 5 | As I was always a full-time student taking my classes during the day, I didn't explore much of this aspect so can't give an informed opinion. |
| Academic Facilities | 6 | Most of the buildings on campus when I attended were either new or recently renovated. Nearly every college had its own computer lab and the library was quite large. I never had trouble getting help either in my own department or any other where I happened to need it. |
| Social Life | 7 | UI is known for its greek offerings and the football team was how it was known by most people in the Northwest. I didn't go out much, yet I still felt in the loop. |
| Placement Services | 8 | They found me an internship and my first full-time job before the end of my junior year. My friends weren't as lucky as that. |
| Alumni Network | 4 | I rarely hear from UI. Others I know get quite a bit of mail (not that I mind). |
