"Very satisfied with SCSU. The opportunities that I had were second to none."

Would Recommend?yesI do recommend SCSU to students that have the drive to make the education work for them. I do have to admit that it is not for everybody. The students that can get out successfully will have the drive to make things happen in their lives.
Program Reputation7SCSU started as a teachers school, and many educators come out of here. Some of the adjunct professors I had worked for the state department of education, or worked in high schools, etc. I did travel to math conferences to see cutting edge research done at my school, however Southern is not known for innovation in these fields.
Program Quality7Mathematics is a demanding field of study. My original plan to become a math teacher did not go as expected when this opportunity came my way. My understanding of math has helped my troubleshooting logic immensely, and I also am now a member of IEEE.
Instruction9SCSU has an Honors College program which was incredible. The staff cared, and I am still in touch with some of them. I am prepared to apply my skills to pretty much any opportunity that comes my way.
How Difficult9Some of the material taught was rather advanced and I still have little to no application for it in my day to day. In advanced physics or cutting edge electronics, my skills may be more applicable. The inside joke is that we learned the material and we'd never use it again.
Hands-On vs. BookishSchool placements for education are mandatory in CT. I had almost a full year of classroom experience under my belt. My thesis using technology in education laid the groundwork to make me a technology professional, along with working for IT on campus.
Schedule Flexibility6The Honors College classes were hard to schedule, and as a result, the school allowed us to register ahead of the upper classmen. working with a good advisor (for all students) is key to plan your semesters around when courses may be offered (some courses are only offered every other semester, every two years, etc).
Academic Facilities8Dedicated libraries were key - they were great places to study and had excellent and pristine copies of the resources we needed, and they were always available. The IT department at Southern and the computer lab are also the trendsetters for the whole CSU system.
Social Life10Southern was a great school. It offered me many opportunities and for what others consider a mediocre school, the synergy made my college experience great.
Placement Services2I am not even aware that SCSU has these options available. My personal network has gotten me to where I am and showed me other opportunities.
Alumni Network4I have to admit I am mainly out of touch with the alumni network. Furthermore, I have only been out of college for about 6 years.

"I was not satisfied at all, due to inept teaching staff, obnoxious students and poor administration. I would not attend again."

Would Recommend?noThere are better opportunities for education out there, such as pursuing a 4-year degree in CS. The certifications we were prepped for could be done at home, for almost nothing.
Program Reputation5A lot of students believe this program is challenging. My parents believed this was something worth spending money on.
Program Quality4The school used Microsoft online academy training for most of it. I also felt the teachers were simply reading from the book.
Instruction3The teachers really phoned in our education, and some simply did not know what they were talking about. In our server class, we did not use a server once, not even a virtual server; it was all done from a book.
How Difficult1We were not challenged. We simply read the book and used the glossary at the back. The tests were all open book.
Hands-On vs. BookishWe did not get to touch servers/networking equipment at all while we were there. We were provided laptops with a copy of Windows XP to virtualize.
Schedule Flexibility5They offer both day and night classes. Missed classes can be made up, to some extent.
Academic Facilities2We did not have any modern equipment. We also did not have many workstations/servers/networking equipment to practice on.
Social Life2The teachers were inept and incapable of even the most generalized support. The students were usually tardy and class was run like a grade school.
Placement Services1They have not placed me in a job. My internship was at a public school system as a Jr. System Admin, and they do not have the budget to hire more people.
Alumni Network1The school has changed administration 3 times in the last 4 months. They constantly lose me in the system.
